This year Hong Kong's Lunar New Year film production has been fewer in quantity, but the box office trend has been decent. Among them NIGHT KING (YEH WONG) stood out alone, recording a box office of about HK$ 866 million with over 900 shows in a single day on the Lunar New Year's Day. With the advanced sales results, the total box office has exceeded 10 million and ranked first in the opening and single-day box office of Lunar New Year films in Hong Kong history. The strong momentum sets an opening box office record for a Dayo Wong Tze Wah movie. A group of actors, including Louise Wong Dan Nei and Renci Yeung Sze Wing, continued to focus on online publicity, while Fish Liew Chi Yu will also thank the audience with her co-stars in the film on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year. Film director Jack Ng Wai Lun forwarded the results post, saying thank you 6 times on behalf of the cast and the crew and filled the audience appreciation screening of sincerity.
NIGHT pulled away by a larger percentage from THE SNOWBALL ON A SUNNY DAY (GUM DOR BO)'s HK$ 1.3 million box office, while the action movie BLADES OF THE GUARDIANS (BIU YUN: FUNG HEI DAI MOK) with 880,000 at the box office ranked third. Another Lunar New Year film, SNOWBALL opened earlier on the 13tth and announced two days ago that it has collected HK$ 3.88 million. NIGHT KING continued its over 900 show run yesterday and SNOWBALL over 290 shows, the latter in comparison has less shows. The SNOWBALL cast including MIRROR member Edan Lui Cheuk On, Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling), Chung Suet Ying, Jiro Lee Sheung Ching, Lee Hoi Lam and director Philip Yung Tsz Kwong today would pay a group Lunar New Year visit to Ma On Shan to pump up the box office.
In addition, Stephen Chow Sing Chi's new film WOMEN'S SOCCER (NUI JOOK) started production last year, has been rumored to star Dilraba, Zhang Xiaofei, Lay Zhang, Sisley Choi Si Bui, Jay Chou and Korean star Song Kang-ho, and wrapped up production in June last year. Yet it did not open on Lunar New Year this year as expected. Chow Sing Chi posted a video on social platform on Lunar New Year's Day. He appeared in his office with his "back toward the camera" as usual, as employees one by one paid him a New Year visit for lai see. "Sixth Brother" Lam Tsz Chung greeted, "One Horse Takes the Lead, I wish your movie would be a bit hit this year!" and leaked that WOMEN'S SOCCER would open this year. Another employee also said, "Everyone is looking forward to your WOMEN'S SOCCER!"
Lam Tsz Chung and that employee sang the praises of WOMEN'S SOCCER's leads, matches, action scenes and emotional scenes for being full of tense, coaxing Chow Sing Chi to give lai see like mad. Lam Tsz Chung even asked his children and other employees to wish the boss a Happy New Year, say WOMEN'S SOCCER would be exciting and entertaining and claim the numerous lai see on his desk as their own.
Chow Sing Chi commented, "As soon as I hear the employee's praises I know they are sincere. In order to encourage such a honest climate, comment with what you want to say to me sincerely and I would choose the 'honest' 10 for a mystery gift."
