Sam Hui Koon Kit's 7 show Hong Kong Coliseum concert series opened two nights ago. The 74 year old was full of energy and he rocked the stage with his sons Ryan and Scott and god son Justin. Sam performed from 8:30 to 11:30 pm, without any sign of exhaustion he performed over 30 classic hits. Many were even songs that encouraged Hong Kong people, so viewers would be able to experience the positive energy from him in a joyous atmosphere. When he performed BAUHINIA, Sam gave a special encouragement to Hong Kong. "Bauhinia only blooms so brilliantly because of the efforts of the people of Hong Kong!"

Sam put some thought into the stage and the costumes for this concert. He wore a red and white glittering sequence costume as he played the guitar and sang JUST A LITTLE, THINGS WE SAID TODAY, BUS STOP, then with his sons Ryan, Scott and god son Justin picked up guitars and played BUDDHA'S DELIGHT, MONEY WOULD KEEP COMING, DON'T TREAT ME LIKE A FOOL and brought the atmosphere to the climax. Later Sam remembered his idol Elvis Presley and performed the song he wrote for him FAREWELL SWALLOW ON THE RAFTER. Then he said it was handshake time and the front row viewers rushed toward the stage. Sam even gave way a leopard print towel with the words "If It is meant to be it is meant to be", which made the fans very happy. Fans also came over to give presents to Sam.

The sentimental Sam in the tribute segment was sorrowful, he performed Danny Chan Pak Keung's LOVE TO OLD AGE as a tribute to him and his former band leader; when he sang his third older brother Ricky Hui Koon Ying's HEARTLESS NIGHT COLD WIND, he was so heartbroken that he touched the "eagle" that represented his brother on the tree. When he played the harmonica and sang Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing's WHO CAN RELATE, he said, "When he passed away everyone was very upset. He was a beautiful youth, everyone loved him. Handsome and a good singer, he was Cheung Kwok Wing. I dedicate this song to him." Sam stood next to the piano, where the prop of the red heels "Gor Gor" Cheung Kwok Wing wore at his concerts and origami crane lay. Near the end he could not help but got choked up. The audience applauded as encouragement. Sam also changed the last two verses to "night is quiet, can Gor Gor feel it" to remember his late friend.

Sam then changed into a white tank top, after playing the Pipa and also wielded nunchukus at will. He even gave the nunchukus to the audience. When he sang his only costume film THE SWORDSMAN (SIU NGO GONG WU)'s theme song, the crowd clapped and sang along. Sam appeared in a glittering cowboy look to sing JAPANESE DOLL and gave away glasses to viewers. In the company of dancers in Japanese, Hawaiian and Samba costumes, Sam lightly danced and sang many hits. With his trademark laughter the evening was heating up.

While Sam was changing, Hui Koon Man appeared and received applause. He joked that Sam had to change into a neon light costume so he had to vamp for several minutes with stand up comedy. He said that he believed the audience would think that he only knew how to sing TOWER IN THE CLOUDS, because it was the only song in his life. Its tragic lyrics said that the Eiffel Tower, Mount Fuji and the world could not compare to the beauty of Hong Kong, which actually had a big secret behind them that he wanted to expose but had to wait until his mother passed to get the courage to. He joked, "Actually before I went on the road Ma saw me off at the airport, saying that last week Sam said that he wanted to America and marry an American girl (his wife Rebecca Fleming). However he was 22, had no career, and would definitely starve his wife to death and stink up the house. So my mission when I went on the road was to bring Sam back. On the eve of Sam's wedding, we were at a small remote village. In a snow storm, U got 40 coins in change for US$ 10 and called Ma long distance from a public phone booth to negotiate. Sam refused to go and would risk death to marry this woman. Ma told me to knock Sam out and carry him back, but he said in America everyone has guns and would blindly shoot them!" Hui Koon Man continued to joke, "Ma told me to knock out Sam and take him to the airport, but I said in the middle of the night the airport was closed and there was no flight. Ma said we had to come back, even if we had to take a balloon without a plane. I said Americans could use rockets to bring down the balloon at anytime. When Ma said to me warn Sam again, the line was disconnected."

Hui Koon Man described Sam at the time stood in the phone booth with snow all over his snow. They stared at each other with nothing to say. He then said to Sam, "Little brother, be good, go home with me. Your Ma says you are an idiot!" Sam answered, "Older Brother, genius and idiot, it wouldn't be so easy to be crazy!" He again urged Sam to listen to Ma, Sam replied, "Life is like gambling, wins and losses aren't scheduled, let me place a wager!" Hui Koon Man then quoted Ma, "You definitely would regret i!" Sam answered, "Life is hard to predict, if it's meant to be it's meant to be, if it's not don't force it. Just wish me well!" Thus Hui Koon Man broke out and did not dare to try to talk him down. "The next day after his wedding I returned to Hong Kong right away, feeling very inspired I wrote TOWER IN THE CLOUDS. Then I got married right away. Ma was so mad she almost jumped out of the building. However decades later, my Ma in Heaven probably would be very happy, because so far Sam and I haven't starved our wives to death and stank up the house." The entire crowd kept laughing and their applause was thunderous. Then Hui Koon Man's son appeared and played the piano, with Hui Koon Man and Sam singing TOWER IN THE CLOUDS and TRAVELER IN THE WIND. When he sang BAUHINIA, Sam gave special encouragement to the people of Hong Kong and said, "Bauhinia is only blooming so brilliantly because of the efforts of the people of Hong Kong!"

During the encore, in a white tank top Sam played the drums and sang HAVING FUN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT, after which he gave away a handkerchief. Later his sons again appeared and performed THE CONTRACT, MISCHIEVOUS TWIN STARS and HALF CATTY EIGHT TAEL. Then he gave away maracas. The first show's guest was creative singer Terence Lam Ka Him, who played the piano as they sang DIARY IN THE HERT. Lam Ka Him said that his parents were there. The night was very special because he never thought that he would be able to share the stage and sing with Song God, the feeling was very special. He thanked Sam for blazing a very beautiful trail for Cantonese songs and good music. Speaking of Sam mentioning in an interview the he and Ka Him were very similar, he felt that talent wise he was very far from the elder, but joked that both he and Sam are troublesome Virgos. He too was born on September 3rd, same as Michael Hui Koon Man and Sam's son. He too has three older brothers and is the fourth child of his family as well. Lam Ka him requested WHERE TO FIND PENGLAI for his father and then performed JOB HUNT with Sam. Fans then made requests and Sam played the guitar as he sang while he crowd clapped along. After Sam sang FROM THE WANDERER'S HEART he said, "I would continue to keep smiling, life would then be happy!" He ended the show with KEEP SMILING and filled the audience with positive energy.
