Francis Ng Chun Yu earlier was a guest presenter at the Hong Kong Film Awards and presented the Best Actor award to good friend Sean Lau Ching Wan. He said that he has been nominated for Best Actor six times but lost them ll. Thus he had to hold the award to get the experience. Ng Chun Yu's son Feynman after watching the live television broadcast on social media joked that his father was an "also ran fish", Ching Wan was "Obama". He posted, "In the end the all ran fish still has to give it to the two time winner Obama." Later he also captioned a photo of the moment Chun Yu presented the award to Ching Yu and continued to poke fun at his father. "You can tell how happy the 'steamed fish' (Mandarin nickname of Chun Yu) is from holding his boyfriend."

After two days, Feynman again posted on social media and tag the Hong Kong Film Award Association president Derek Yee Tung Sing's account. "How are you, Yee Tung Sing. I feel the Hong Kong Film Awards should add a 'Best Also Ran Award'. You can say it's a type of consolation prize, an award for movies like DRIFTING (SHOOK SHUI PIU LAU)."
