The Hong Kong Film Awards took place last night with a lot of highlight that could be reminisced. This year the Hong Kong Film Award aired on ATV. In the past when TVB artists appeared on other stations they had to speak Putonghua, but yesterday was a historic moment when Fala Chen spoke Cantonese on ATV. Last night the first category unveiled was the Best New Artist award with Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Chin Kar Lok as the guest presenters. Chi Wai and Kar Lok Jai messed with TVB as Chi Wai even asked Fala to speak Cantonese. Finally Fala thanked TVB in Cantonese and off stage Elaine Lok Yi Ling could not be happier. Kar Lok Jai even joked that this was a historical moment. Yet the funniest was Michelle Ye (Yip Shuen), who actually followed Fala in thanking TVB and cracked up the crowd.

Eric Tsang Chi Wai also did not spare Chris Li Yuchun. Chi Wai pointed out that she was different tonight and pointed at her dress. So she said the dress, Chi Wai cracked up and said that he knew it was a dress, but Li Yuchun still did not respond much and remained cool.  However, at the beginning of the show, the entire venue stood up for a moment of silence to salute Wong Fok Wing, who lost his life while rescuing people at the Qinghai Earthquake, and its victims. In addition, this year's ATV live broadcast arranged for Lam Wai Shun, Lam Chiu Wing, a metaphysics expert and a fashion designer as hosts to critique fashion and nominee aura in a considerably alternative manner. At the same time, ATV aired the complete original version that waited until the guests were done with their speeches before going to commercial -- a huge difference from TVB.

Guest presenters Chapman To Man Jat and Krystal Tin Yui Nei claimed to be the model couple in the industry. They then named many model couples in the business like Fong Ping and Paw Hee Ching, Simon Yam Tat Wa and Qi Qi. Suddenly Tin Yui Nei blurred out Sandra Ng Kwan Yu. Ah Jat blamed his wife and said, "Kwan Yu told people that they aren't married, you are exposing people's stuff." Off stage Ng Kwan Yu pointed at them with a smile, Ah Jat and his wife immediately apologized.

Off stage Chang Chen was caught in an awkward spot. When his film RED CLIFF II (CHET BIK KUET JIN TIN HA) won Best Sound Effect, in the audience he thought that he had to go on stage with the winners so he happily stood up and gestured with the workers. When he did not need to he immediately sat down.

Taiwan popular hunks Ethan Ruan (Yuen King Tin) and Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting) presented Best Sound Effect and Best Visual Effect and came up with their own stand up routine. They stood in front of the microphone with gestures and expressions, their lips moved but no sound was heard. Soon Chiu Yau Ting finally said, "The microphone isn't broken!" Siu Tin continued, "Now everyone knows the importance of sound!" The audience applauded and Siu Tin immediately introduced himself in not so fluent Cantonese, "Hi everyone, I am 'Yuen Kin Tin'!" The crowd laughed.

In addition, during the ceremony, the event invited Kay Tse On Kay to perform STARLIGHT ACCOMPANIES MY HEART (SING GUONG BOON NGOR SUM) for its late artist memorial segment that included Tina Ti (Dik Na), Wan Chi Keung, Kung Fun Hung, Chan Hung Lit, Shek Kin and others. Host Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui narrated and harmonized. Unfortunately when Kay tried to hit the low notes she still went off key. This year was the late kung fu superstar Bruce Lee's 70th birthday, a segment also commemorated the occasion. Andy Hui Chi On, Louis Fan Siu Wong, Jam Hsiao (Siu King Tung), LMF and children nunchuku performers were featured.
