[2023.05.05] JULIAN CHEUNG IS IN TALK FOR WONG JING'S ROMANTIC SWORDSMAN

Julian Cheung is suitable for both modern and costume roles, playing a hero should not be difficult for him

Currently busy with Mainland variety program development, Julian Cheung Chi Lam earlier received director Wong Jing's offer to make the classic film based on a wuxia novel THE ROMANTIC SWORDSMAN (SIU LEI FEI DOH). Rising in popularity in the Mainland from CALL ME BY FIRE 2, Ron Ng Cheuk Hei has also been one of the targets. If confirmed, they would work together again after TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES 2 (CHUNG SEUNG WON SIU II) and NIGHT IN THE GREATER BY 2. Cheung Chi Lam recently has been training in Hong Kong in order to be at his best for the movie.

After Raymond Lam Fung's KUNG FU CULT MASTER (YI TIN DOH LUNG GEI) film series and Donnie Yen Chi Tan's SAKRA (TIN LUNG BAK BO ji KIU FUNG JUEN), director Wong Jing has planned for Cheung Chi Lam to star in the film version of THE ROMANTIC SWORDSMAN (SIU LEI FEI DOH).

In 1978 Wong Jing's father Wong Tin Lam produced the TVB series THE ROMANTIC SWORDSMAN that starred Chu Kong, Wong Yuen Kwun, Wong Hung Sau and Lee Lam Lam and started a wuxia series fever. Over the years the subject has been remade, like the Dave Wong Kit starred film THE LEGEND OF THE FLYING SWORDSMAN (SIU LEI FEI DOH ji FEI DOH OI JUEN), Taiwan artist Vincent Chiao En-chun and Mainland film star Wu Jing starred, Yuen Woo Ping directed television series. Even Stephen Chow Sing Chi in the film THE FLIRTING SCHOLAR (TONG BAK FU DIM CHAU HEUNG) parodied the show as an indirect tribute to the elder. Now Wong Jing has accepted the torch from his father Wong Tin Lam, he would challenge his father's classic work.

Wong Jing has always been good at casting. Chilam could not be more suitable to play the well educated and trained, faithful in love and never waste a dagger "Lee Chum Foon". Chilam lately has been resting in Hong Kong and bowling with friends to stay active. His friend posted the video on social media, in which Chilam easily knocked down 8 pins.

Another important character in the film, Lee Chum Foon's friend "Ah Fei" reportedly would have a good chance to be played by Ron Ng Cheuk Hei. Earlier he took the baton from Michael Tse Tin Wa and starred in the Wong Jing produced internet film QUEEN OF TRIADS 3 with "China's most beautiful chest" Xu Dongdong. Wong Jing has given Ng Cheuk Hei rather high praises and felt that he has both the appearance and the acting. The lead actress has not been set yet, but SAKRA's Mainland star Chen Yuqi and Grace Wong Kwan Hing would have the opportunity to "repeat". After Sabrina Qiu and Yun Qianqian, Wong Jing lately has been promoting another "Jing Girl" Xie Sitong. She would also play a role. The former model after participating in the Zhejiang Satellite Television program FALL IN LOVE rapidly rose in  popularity.

About the production, Wong Jing only said that every year he would make a costume film. "When there is news I would announce it right away." Cheung Chi Lam admitted that it was in negotiation, but nothing has been confirmed.
