Best Actor nominee Nick Cheung Ka Fai earlier received the Hong Kong Federation of Filmmakers' 2012 Outstanding Performance Film Actor. Ka Fai who is working on the film SO DUK (DRUG SWEEP) in Thailand was unable to return to Hong Kong to accept the award in person but still celebrated with friends Lau Ching Wan and Louis Koo Tin Lok, who popped bottles of champagne with him there.
Cheung Ka Fai with the film NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) was nominated for next month's 22nd Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor, but he earlier already received the Hong Kong Federation of Filmmakers' 2012 Outstanding Performance Film Actor award and the recognition of filmmakers.
Because Ka Fai was working on his new film SO DUK in Thailand, he was unable to return to Hong Kong to accept the award. However, SO director Benny Chan Muk Sing, Ching Wan, Goo Jai, Berg Ng Ting Yip, Ken Low Wai Kwong and others in Thailand opened bottles of champagne to congratulate Ka Fai. He happily said, "Although the team didn't give me time off to return to Hong Kong for the award, the director and the team still had me in their minds. This champagne goes down particularly easy. Our team's cinematographer (Fletcher) Poon Yiu Ming also received Best Cinematography, which is proof that we have a solid team."
Was he confident about winning Best Actor again? Ka Fai praised fellow nominee Ching Wan. "Award depends on fate, but I admire how Ching Wan earlier at a public event joked that his chances were not high because this time the competition was strong, with two with the last name Leung and two with the name Ka Fai. This sidestepping is almost the best, he indeed is an expert!"
Yesterday Ka Fai returned to Hong Kong for a day to wrap up another film MOR GAING (DEMON COP) then returned to Thailand to continue the shoot.
