Last year due to the pandemic, Hong Kong cinemas lost two major golden dates of Lunar New Year and Easter. However since re-opening they drew "revenge style" admission from movie goers and the total box office for the entire year was HK$ 1,143,848,662. In comparison to the 2019 and 2021 total box office, last year's film industry development remained very grim.

217 films were released in Hong Kong in 2022, 27 of which were Hong Kong films. Among them WARRIORS OF FUTURE (MING YUT JIN GEI), TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM) and MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR) each made over HK$ 80 million, over HK$ 70 million and over HK$ 40 million to become the highest grossing Hong Kong films of 2022; TOP GUN: MAVERICK topped the box office would over HK$ 100 million among non Hong Kong films.

The Louis Koo Tin Lok film WARRIORS OF FUTURE (MING YUT JIN GEI) still has not left the theaters yet. Already passed HK$ 81 million at the cumulative box office, it became the top Hong Kong film at box office! The Keung To and Jer Lau Ying Ting starred Emperor Motion Picture MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR) also made over HK$ 40 million in third place; the Dior Cheng Yi Kin starred LIFE MUST GO ON (SUM SIU SIM BEI KAU) made over HK$ 3 million to round out the top ten.
