Joyce Cheng Yun Yi's first lead role in film was in the Singapore and Malaysia Lunar New Year film HUAT AH! HUAT AH! HUAT! with Malaysian artist A Niu. The film was in release in Singapore for six days and made S$300,000, defeating the same day releases of GOLDEN CHICKEN SSS (GUM GAI SSS) and HELLO BABIES (LUK FUK HEI SI). Its total box office would likely set a new box office record for A Niu there.
Yun Yi in the film played an ugly woman and shot in the Malaysia country side. She even had to get into the water and get a kiss on her cheek, which to her were new challenges. She again thanked the film's executive producer, director and lead actor A Niu. Although the shoot was difficult she had a lot of fun. She said that learning about the good box office news was a good omen for the Year of the Horse.
